Privacy

You can explore the map without creating an account. Here is how Watter uses information.

Accounts and public contributions

Supabase provides sign-in and stores account information. Your email is not a public review name. Display names, published reviews and approved fountain contributions can be public. Choose a display name you are comfortable sharing. Google sign-in shares the account information needed to sign you in.

Location and maps

Your browser asks before GPS access. Choosing your location centers the map; proposing a fountain saves the coordinates you select. Map providers receive tile requests. Address searches and reverse lookups go through Watter to OpenStreetMap Nominatim. Lookup results are cached privately for up to 24 hours of reuse to limit requests; expired entries are removed during later successful lookups. The cache is not linked to accounts and does not store the raw search query. Opening directions sends the fountain destination to Google Maps.

Photos

Submission photos are stored privately for moderation before approval. Approved photos can become public. Do not upload photos containing private information or people without appropriate permission.

Private feedback and reports

Visitor feedback asks for no name, email or account and is readable only by administrators. Do not put passwords or personal details in it. Reports and pending submissions are reviewed privately. Some moderation and ban records can remain after an account is removed.

Activity and spam protection

Watter records fountain views, directions and signed-in actions for private statistics and personal features. Signed-in activity can be associated with your account. Feedback and activity rate-limit tables use keyed, temporary IP hashes rather than raw IP addresses. Hosting, map and authentication providers process ordinary network information and may keep their own logs.

Device storage and account choices

Language, light/dark mode and welcome preferences can be stored on your device. The theme preference uses a cookie to remember your choice for up to one year. Downloaded saved fountains can be kept for offline use and are cleared when the account changes or signs out. Send private feedback for questions about your data without posting personal details publicly. Account and moderation records are not all automatically erased when you stop using the site.

Service providers

Watter uses Vercel for hosting, Supabase for accounts, data and photos, Esri for satellite imagery, CARTO for street labels, and OpenStreetMap Nominatim for address lookup. Their services have their own privacy policies.
